Acapulco, Mexico - Pearl of the Pacific

Acapulco, the Mexican sweetheart is worth a visit even as the resplendent resort struggles to sustain the flair it once had during the halcyon days of the 1950s. Merry mornings, tropical revelry and glamorous nights make it a perfect place to replenish your psyche. There are glimpses of the past sprawled over the sallow beaches, stunning cliffs, sumptuous hotels and the spruced up restaurants and clubs. The beaches are an ideal place to relax and soak up the tropical sun albeit the pesky hawkers. The glass-bottom boat ride is a fascinating experience taking a peek at the cliffside mansions, fish feeding and a floating restaurant. You can see a submerged statue of the Virgin Mary through the glass bottomed ferries that gives a spiritual sensation. The Isla La Roqueta is a gorgeous little island with a myriad of sights to explore. Acapulco is never short of adventure sports like bungee jumping and cliff diving. At Acapulco's restaurants don't forget to taste the scrumptious pozole, a local stew/soup made from corn, pork and chicken, avocado, oregano, etc. At night the city just refuses to sleep and the party goes on and on forever. Music and discos keep your spirits high making your trip a memorable experience.

Heavenly Cayman Islands

Cayman Islands in the Caribbean is located about 150 miles south of Cuba and to the northwest of Jamaica. They are a group of three small islands namely Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. The islands are home to pristine marine life, genuine natural scenery and unique travel adventures. A dip in the water on board the Atlantis submarine to capture the scenes of marine life underneath is highly recommended. You can watch the divers below interacting with you while feeding the fishes. Scuba diving is one of the major attractions here. With a giant stride entry into the water you can swim along with the fishes and spot some unique creatures on your way to the wreck. If you are lucky, you may visit the islands during the pirates week. The festival includes mock pirates enjoying lovely music, street dances, funny games and delicious food. A Cayman Islands safari is never complete without a trip to the Stingrays city. Feeling the stingrays on your skin is a different experience in itself.

Trip to Thirupathi
Thirupathi is just a five hour drive from Chennai and I visited the Thirupathi temple last weekend to get the blessings of Lord Venkateswara. I booked a tour package with Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation for a weekend trip that costs Rs.1200 per individual. I boarded the air conditioned bus on saturday at 6.30PM and landed at Tirupati at 12AM early sunday. We were allocated a room at the Pilgrim Amenities Centre. The room is for two and it had good facilities. After relaxing for a couple of hours we boarded a local bus by 2AM that climbed the hill all the way up to Thirumala temple. The entire uphill journey took nearly 50 minutes. We had to stand in a long queue and it took almost two and a half hours to get darshan. We had our breakfast at a local APTDC restaurant. The food was not great but satisfactory enough. From there we visited the Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple which is about 5km from Tirupati. Finally we stopped at the famous Srikalahasti temple which is 36 km from Tirupati. Wherever you go you have to wait in queue to get darshan. I got two Tirupati laddus and two more laddus at Padmavathi temple. I landed at chennai on sunday by 5.30PM. It was a tiresome yet holy trip but I felt that the crowd management system at the Tirupati temple could have been far better than what I had to experience.

Armenia Tourism
Armenia is a small nation sandwiched between the Black and the Caspian seas sharing its frontier with Turkey, Georgia, Iran and Azerbaijan. Armenia is the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as its official religion. The ancient cradle of civilization has a legacy of rich cultural diversity and a volatile history. Despite its troubled past the government is trying to promote tourism and move ahead with economic reforms. The number of tourists visiting Armenia has gone up in recent times and the country has some unique and magnificent attractions. The local language is Armenian but people speak Russian and English. The country is undergoing a transformation process and young Armenians are working on the building program. The countryside of Armenia is the pinnacle tourist attraction with mountains, hot springs, caves and sea resorts. Lake Sevan is renowned worldwide and it is one of the largest mountain lakes in the world. But the lake faces certain environmental issues and deforestation is extensive in the country. Travel in recession
It is that time of the year when people embark on outbound travel trips to stay away from the summer heat. But the economic weakness is forcing people to think again. Some people travel on loans to other countries but nowadays banks are increasingly unwilling to lend for travel fearing non-refund of loans. The concept of travel loans is still in the embryonic stage and the recession is pulling it down. The number of people traveling abroad on tour has gone down. Travel firms are trying to unite with banks to fund for travel loans. But banks are sticking to the idea of personal loans that involve higher interest rates. Personal loans can be used for any purpose and loans will be sanctioned based on the repaying capability of the person. Yet banks believe they are risky. Borrowers usually tend to default personal loans more often than house loans or auto loans. Therefore banks are tentative to lend for travel.

En route Cape Reinga
New Zealand is a beautiful piece of land that offers plenty of surprises and adventures. The travel from Kawa Kawa to Cape Reinga is an enthralling experience. Kawa Kawa is a handsome little town touted as having the most beautiful and creative toilets in the world. After a peep at these artistic toilets the next stop will be the gorgeous Kauri Cliffs Resort. The golf resort ranks No.58 in the world but it is not just about golf. The captivating forests allure visitors riding on horse back in the serene atmosphere. The beaches are deserted looking calm and peaceful. The other major attraction of Kauri Cliffs is the spa. You can get a unique facial done where they apply New Zealand volcanic mud on your face which has moisturizing properties and also drags out impurities from your skin. It is a good idea to embark on a Kauri Cliffs chopper flight and fly all the way to Cape Reinga along the east coast. After you disembark the chopper pick up the van to reach the northernmost tip of New Zealand - Cape Reinga.

Good old San Juan
Puerto Rico's capital city San Juan promises interesting adventures for tourists and travelers. The place still has the scent of Spanish and is one of the most beguiling destinations in the Caribbean. Handsome highways, colorful buildings, assorted cars, lots of flowers and birds greet you to this colonial grandeur. The residences are enticing and the people here are open and friendly. History has a lot of tales to tell about San Juan and you will find standing testimonies even today. Check out the Parque de las Palomas or the Pigeon Park to get some real fun up close with the naughty birds. Feeding them can be an exhilarating experience and the birds can get really wacky. You will find all famous restaurants on the streets like McDonalds, Starbucks and Marshalls. If you want to try some authentic San Juan flavor taste the special snow cone drink. San Juan is not a place to be missed on a Caribbean voyage.
