Broccoli bytes

People who love to feast on broccoli have reasons to rejoice because of the umpteen health benefits that this dark green member of the cabbage family has to offer. Broccoli is high in nutritional value and it is a rich source of vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, folic acid and dietary fibre. Calcium helps regulate blood pressure and fortifies our bones. Research says that eating broccoli regularly reduces the risk of cancer. Glutamic acid present in broccoli has the ability to reduce hypertension bringing down both the systolic as well as diastolic readings. Broccoli is good for the stomach and it contains sulforaphane which controls the gut bug H. pylori bacteria. H. pylori infection can lead to stomach cancer but broccoli destroys them thereby reducing the risk of gastritis, ulcers and other stomach disorders. Sulforaphane also bolsters the immune system. Another major discovery on broccoli's goodness is its ability to reverse the damage caused by diabetes to heart blood vessels. Broccoli is also abundant in antioxidant content and fibre content.
